An Engagement Session in Leamington Spa

I’ve been living in Leamington Spa for almost three years now, and as much as it was an adjustment getting used to life in the UK (I still need a second to remember which side of the car I’m supposed to get into), I absolutely love this town. Being a wedding photographer in this area is also amazing: not only do we have beautiful venues nearby, but we’re right on the doorstep of the Cotswolds, and just a 1 hour 20 minute train ride from London.

As for photo sessions, Leamington is full of lovely spots… and one of them is literally a two-minute walk from home: Jephson Gardens.

For Valentine’s Day, I decided I wanted to give something back to my Instagram community. What can I say—I’m a romantic at heart. So I organised a Valentine’s giveaway for a couple session. A&J were the lucky winners, which made it even more special as they had recently got engaged.

Starting out in Jephson Gardens

I love Jephson Gardens, I jokingly call it my back garden! It’s a formal Victorian park and an absolute dream for a session, with so many different backdrops all in one place.

In spring, you’ll find gorgeous flower beds, and Jephson’s Memorial makes for a stunning architectural feature. The Glasshouse, filled with lush plants, is also an incredible spot to shoot. And of course, the blue bridge is a must, especially with its slightly Parisian “Pont des Arts” feel, with all the love locks attached to the railings.

For a little break, grabbing a drink at the Aviary also creates the cutest photo opportunities, especially when playing with reflections.

Walking into town: the Royal Pump Rooms

As we head towards the Parade and up into town, we pass by the Royal Pump Rooms. This building is stunning, with its columns and beautiful windows, it adds so much to the composition of the images.

Don’t get me wrong, what matters most to me is the emotion and the connection between you in my photos… but sometimes, incorporating the surroundings, using lines and perspective, can really elevate an image. The way I see it, the setting should never take attention away from you, but gently enhance the dynamic between you.

Georgian houses as a finishing touch

Leamington Spa is also known for its Georgian architecture, so I took my two lovebirds further up the Parade, where I know a few buildings with the sweetest doors, perfect for wrapping up the session.

A&J were an absolute joy, following every idea with enthusiasm and laughter. I’m so happy with how the photos turned out, but even more so with the time we spent together. They shared stories from their relationship throughout the shoot, with plenty of funny anecdotes along the way.

It was the perfect way to end this day in London, relaxed, simple, and very natural.

Final thoughts…

At the end of the day, that’s what a session with me is really about. Of course, we create beautiful photos, but more importantly, we spend a lovely moment together and create memories. So that whenever you look back at your photos, you don’t just see a pretty picture, you remember how it felt.
